We are winding down the 2016-17 HS Basketball season in the Mahoning Valley. There is both good news and bad news to report.
The bad news is that we are sending one fewer team to the regional tournaments this year as opposed to last year. In 2015-16, the Mahoning Valley sent a combined seven teams (three girls teams and four boys teams) to the regionals. This year, we are sending six teams (three girls teams and three boys teams).
The good news is that we have already beaten our record from last year. Last year our seven teams all lost in the first round of the regional tournaments. A combined 0-7. This year, thanks to the West Branch and Jackson Milton girls teams winning their first round regional tournament games, we have amassed two wins and will get another when JFK-McDonald meet in an all local D-4 regional game.
Hopefully, the winner of the JFK-McDonald game, or Ursuline in D-2, can get the two wins needed to advance to the state tournament in Columbus.
