It has been said that beating a team three times over the course of a season in HS sports is extremely hard to do. For one night, last night at the Struthers Fieldhouse, that myth was destroyed.
In the Division III District Semi-Finals, Ursuline played their arch rival Cardinal Mooney. The Irish beat the Cardinals in both meetings during the regular season, 62-51 and 76-71 in double-overtime. Last night the Irish made it three in a row as they beat Cardinal Mooney 68-62.
Not to be outdone, Columbiana faced the same situation in the nightcap at the Fieldhouse against Lisbon. Earlier in the regular season the Clippers beat the Devils twice, including a 98-97 double-overtime game that left everyone who saw the game wanting one more game. The fans got their wish and though last nights game wasn't nearly as entertaining as the game in Lisbon, it was still a very entertaining affair. In the end the Clippers won their third game in a row as they eliminated Lisbon 63-57.
While it is very difficult to achieve what Ursuline and Columbiana did, for one night the myth was destroyed.
